The All Ceylon Women’s Buddhist Association (ACWBA) was founded on the 12th of July 1949 by Mrs. B. S. Jayawardena, (Mrs. Juliet Jayawardena) a dynamic figure of immense stature and a philanthropist. A group of courageous and inspired Buddhist women joined her. ACWBA later ACWBC, emerged as the premier Buddhist organization for women and children in Sri Lanka, making a significant contribution to the religious and cultural revival which took place throughout the country after gaining Independence.
